IS RIGOBERT SONG'S SITUATION DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF MARC BRYS ?
Rigobert Song recently discussed tensions linked to his appointment as coach of the national team of the Central African Republic during the program "Talents d'Afrique" on Canal+ Sport Africa. He explained that his appointment was initiated by a direct invitation from the Central African president, who asked him to support the youth of the country through football.
After accepting, the process was accelerated by the Ministry of Sports, but without consulting the Central African Football Federation (FCF), the competent technical body in the matter. Song recognized this omission, stressing that this haste caused tensions with the FCF, which recalls that the appointment of members of the technical supervision is its exclusive competence.
Aware of the sensitivity of the situation, Song chose not to immediately sign his contract, preferring to wait for an agreement between all parties. He expressed his understanding in the face of the frustration of the President of the FCF, noting that in many African countries, government decisions often take precedence over those of sports federations. Due to the urgency of future matches against Malawi and Mali, Song said that he would not be on the bench as a main coach, but will rather act as a supervisor, observing the functioning of the team and preparing a harmonious transition to its futureresponsibilities.
This situation recalls that of Marc Brys, whose appointment as coach of Cameroon had also aroused tensions between the Ministry of Sports and the Cameroonian Football Federation. However, Rigobert Song insists that his situation differs from that of Brys, saying that he was directly invited by the president and that he took measures to avoid a similar conflict.
“I cannot be in the same situation as Marc Brys. I was first invited by the President of the Republic who asked me if I could support youth. .I accepted and he immediately seized his close collaborator who is the Ministry of Sports and things went very quickly. I think things went very quickly in the sense that the ministry should have first seized the federation which is the technical organ. .That’s why I didn’t sign at the first time. I asked that there was an agreement before signing and working in the best conditions. The president had an exchange with the minister and after he received me and we had to speak. .I understand his bitterness because the problems we have in Africa is that governments take precedence over all federations. He explained to me that it was the form that bothered him because he had no worries. .He explained to me that the matches against Malawi and Mali arrived quickly and I will not be able to be on the sidelines. So I will be a little in supervisor to see how things work ”.
